David E. Gehlke has been writing about metal since 2002, including stints with magazines such as Throat Culture, Snaggletooth and Metal Maniacs. He served as editor of Blistering.com, one of North America’s first hard rock and metal webzines, from 2007 until its 2013 dissolution. Today, he writes for Dead Rhetoric and is a regular news and features contributor to Blabbermouth.net.
In 2017, David released his first book, Damn the Machine – The Story of Noise Records, chronicling the dramatic rise and fall of one of European metal’s most groundbreaking record companies. In 2019, David authored No Celebration – The Official Story of Paradise Lost, detailing the three-decades-plus career of the true pioneers of Gothic doom metal. Three years later, David wrote Turned Inside Out – The Official Story of Obituary, documenting the journey of the legendary Floridian death metallers. In 2023, David released The Scott Burns Sessions - A Life in Death Metal: 1987 - 1997, an oral history about the legendary Morrisound Recording producer and engineer.
David currently resides in Pittsburgh, PA with his wife Ashley, daughter Gemma and two dogs, Goji and Mochi.
